Report from ERM TG8

Document for:

Agenda item:

Information and decision

According to the decision of ERM 11 meeting (approval 11/1), TG8 report would be approved subject to an editorial check, provided that no sustained objection would be received within 14 days of the close of this meeting.

During this period some comments were made. All of them were editorial in nature and they were introduced as additional changes in a new version, with a general editorial clean-up thanks to ETSI secretariat. Finally TG-8 report was published on 24 August 2.000 as TR 101837. Further studies on CB compatibility could be undertaken in the future, but it would be a new ERM decision that now TG8 is not able to ask for.

Once TR 101837 has been adopted, the last TG8 proposal is to send a request to CENELEC in order to take it into account and to revise the actual requirements for the immunity of television broadcast receivers in the band 26 to 30.

As it has been included in the conclusion of the TR, levels developed by significant number of TV installations exceed the limits of input immunity set by EN 55020. At the same time, levels developed by TV set-ups can also be increased if a RF amplifier is included in the TV installation. The role of such amplifiers should be only to amplify the signal TV channels, whilst in fact, as there are no standards for such products, these RF devices frequently also amplify signals outside the broadcast bands including 27 MHz. Because of this lack of standards, some competent laboratories use EN 50083-2 (for cable distribution systems) to check the behaviour of antenna amplifiers. Or, also EN 50083-2 should be revised on attenuation characteristics in the band of 26 to 30 MHz.

In conclusion, EMC limits defined in EN 55020 and EN 50083-2 should be revised by CENELEC taking due account of data contained in TR 101837.

TG8 complete with this proposal his work, just asking ERM meeting for the decision to close the Task Group. As rapporteur I would like to thank a lot the co-operation and comprehension of all ERM members.

The meeting noted document 12_012, the report of TG8.

The meeting noted that TR 101 837 v 1.1.1, which had been produced by TG8, had now been published. It was proposed that the TR, which indicates a lack of immunity in EN 55020 for television receivers and EN 50083-2 for cable distribution systems, be sent to CENELEC with a request that CENELEC revise their standards.

It was noted that interference has been reported in Finland from TETRA into cable networks. The meeting anticipated that lack of immunity in TV cable distribution systems would become an increasing problem.

It was noted that the Commission had taken the position in TCAM 6 that broadcast receiving equipment which can receive outside the designated broadcast bands is also covered by the R&TTE Directive.

Action 12/28

Chairman

Initiate communications with CENELEC and CISPR to request modifications to EN 55020 and EN 50083-2, based on, inter alia, TR 101 837.

Decision 12/17

TG8, having completed its business, was closed.

The TG8 Chairman thanked the delegates in TG8 for their active participation in the work.

The Chairman thanked the TG8 Chairman and the CB community for their thorough and professional work in this area. This was greeted by applause from the meeting.

Action 11/3

Secretariat

To carry out an editorial check of DTR/ERM-TG8-001 before publication.
